In less than two years, the Los Angeles Beard and Mustache Club has expanded from a small social group with a handful of members to a legitimate organization boasting over 1,100 members on it’s Facebook group and over 70 active local members. Monthly meetings have grown from a group of less than 10 to an average of 40-50 members per gathering.
Along the way, the club has made serious waves in the bearding world with club President John Myatt and former Vice President Jeffrey Moustache earning runner-up honors in their respective categories at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in 2011. These honors were followed by additional wins at the 2011 National Beard and Moustache Championships, with Nate Johnson placing third in Partial Beard and Myatt taking the national title in Groomed Beard. Additionally, a number of club members qualified for their respective category-finals.
To date, the biggest feather in the LABMC’s cap was their inaugural Los Angeles Beard and Moustache Competition held in August 2011 at the Federal Bar in North Hollywood. The event sold out within 15 minutes of the doors opening and had a wait-list of over 150 people. Media outlets like the Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, NBC LA, Buzzfeed and a number of independent online publications picked up the story and word of the competition spread far and wide across the Internet.
Today, the LABMC is recharged and ready to blow the roof off of the 2012 Los Angeles Beard and Mustache Competition – and we want you there when it happens.
